What happened
Torrential rain and flash flooding hit Henderson on Friday, and Henderson Fire crews rescued four people from floodwaters, KTNV reported. One of those people did not survive, according to a city spokesperson. The City of Henderson described the rescues as "simultaneous," with the calls coming in at about 1 p.m.
Minutes before those calls, the National Weather Service issued an alert. It warned of sudden, heavy rainfall and the potential for life-threatening floods, according to KTNV. The rescues took place at three separate locations in the city.
Where the three rescues took place
City officials told KTNV that two of the three rescues happened along Lake Mead Parkway. The third was on North Milan Street. Here is what the city reported at each location.
North Pueblo Boulevard
At North Pueblo Boulevard, officials said crews had to rescue a person from the wash. "Upon rescue, the subject went into cardiac arrest and crews provided immediate care," a city spokesperson wrote, according to KTNV. The person was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead there. KTNV's report did not identify the person.
Near the Lake Las Vegas entrance
East of the Lake Las Vegas entrance, crews were called to remove two people from a vehicle. Floodwaters had swept that vehicle off the roadway, officials said. The City of Henderson said no one was injured in that rescue.
North Milan Street near Drake Street
A third call came from North Milan Street, near Drake Street. Officials said a vehicle had become disabled during an attempt to cross floodwaters. The occupant climbed to the top of the vehicle and was rescued by emergency responders. No injuries were reported, according to officials.
Lake Mead Parkway closure
The flooding also affected traffic in Henderson. As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, flooding and debris had forced the closure of Lake Mead Parkway east of Lake Las Vegas Parkway, KTNV reported. KTNV's report did not say when the road would reopen.
