What happened
Henderson police arrested a man Friday after a man and a woman were shot to death in the 1000 block of Center Street, near East Lake Mead Parkway and East Warm Springs Road, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The shooting came one day after a woman was fatally shot at an adjacent apartment complex. KTNV reported that no arrests had been made in that earlier case, and police said the two shootings were not related.
Friday shooting at the Cascade complex
A caller reported hearing gunshots around 7 a.m. and seeing someone run to a vehicle and drive away, Henderson Police Department Capt. Haven Tillmon told reporters at a briefing near the scene, according to the Review-Journal. Officers found a man and a woman, both in their 30s, dead from gunshot wounds. By late morning, police had taped off several units at the Cascade apartment complex.
Tillmon said the vehicle that left the complex crashed near Lake Mead Parkway and Lake Las Vegas Parkway while officers were responding, and police took a man into custody there. A police press release later said the 22-year-old man was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run and two counts of open murder, the Review-Journal reported. Tillmon did not give a motive and did not say whether a weapon was recovered.
Thursday shooting at Hampton Court
KTNV reported that officers were called around 9 a.m. Thursday to a shooting in the same 1000 block of Center Street, where they found a woman with a gunshot wound. She received medical care at the scene but died, and KTNV reported she was 40. The Review-Journal said that shooting happened at the Hampton Court apartments, next to the Cascade complex. Police are asking the public for help identifying suspects.
A violent week in Henderson
The Review-Journal reported that at least five people died from gun violence in Henderson this week. Beyond the Thursday and Friday shootings, police responded Tuesday to what they called a murder-suicide in the 2000 block of Tiger Links Drive, near West Horizon Ridge and Sunridge Heights parkways.

The Clark County coroner's office on Thursday identified the couple, who were 70 and 72. The coroner ruled the woman's death a homicide and the man's death a suicide, both from gunshot wounds to the head. Detectives said they believe the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself, the newspaper reported.
What residents and police said
Brandon Jones, who lives at the Cascade complex, told the Review-Journal he came back from an e-scooter ride Friday to find a large police presence and officers blocking off nearby units. He said he moved there from Chicago a few months ago with his fiancée and their two children, and the shootings have him questioning the safety of the area. "I can't say I expected it here in Henderson," Jones said.
Cedric Thomas, who lives at Hampton Court, told the newspaper he knew the woman killed Thursday but did not name her. "I feel bad," Thomas said. "I mean, three people lost their lives."
Tillmon urged anyone who fears for their safety to call police. "If you're experiencing any danger, any domestic violence, anything, this is what we're here for," he said, according to the Review-Journal. Find more of our public safety coverage across the valley.
