What happened
The National Weather Service said Monday that the Las Vegas Valley should expect a quiet, dry week, with winds increasing Saturday, the Las Vegas Sun reported. The agency's weekly outlook calls for temperatures 3 to 5 degrees below normal in most areas through the workweek.
Brayden Murdock, a meteorologist at the weather service's Las Vegas office, told the Sun the region is "going to have a calm week ahead of us." The forecast shows no chance of rain in Las Vegas from Monday through Sunday.
Day-by-day temperatures in Las Vegas
Highs and lows
The Sun cited the weather service forecast for daily highs. They are 69 Monday and Tuesday, 70 Wednesday and Thursday, 71 Friday, 72 Saturday and 69 Sunday. Lows range from 51 Monday to 55 Saturday.
Murdock said lows in most areas will stay in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Some cooler spots will drop into the 30s.
Colder and warmer spots around the region
Mount Charleston is forecast to see lows of 31 to 37 degrees and highs of 48 to 50 degrees, the Sun reported. In Lincoln County, Rachel is expected to drop to 29 degrees Monday and to 30 or 31 degrees the rest of the week.
Furnace Creek in Death Valley National Park will stay much warmer by comparison. The forecast shows highs there of 81 to 85 degrees all week.
Winds pick up Saturday
Las Vegas gusts stay modest
Winds in Las Vegas will be light most of the week, with gusts of 12 mph or less through Friday, according to the forecast. Murdock said conditions turn breezier Saturday, when gusts in the city are forecast to peak at 15 mph.
For Saturday, the weekly outlook flags wind in four Nevada counties: Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda. It also flags Mohave County in Arizona and Inyo and San Bernardino counties in California. Even so, the outlook rates the wind risk at its lowest level, "Little to None," the Sun reported.
Stronger winds along the Colorado River
The outlook also flags wind and waves for the Colorado River Valley on Monday, Friday and Saturday. Forecasters expect Saturday gusts of 40 mph in Needles, Calif., and 37 mph in Laughlin. Those are the highest readings in the weather service's gust forecast for the week.
Murdock said those two communities will take "the brunt of those northerly winds as the pattern changes," according to the Sun.
Looking ahead to next week
The weather service's six-to-10-day outlook covers Friday through Nov. 10. Murdock said it leans toward above-average temperatures for the Las Vegas region, though only by a few degrees. He said temperatures will begin climbing again by Friday.
Murdock said little precipitation is expected until perhaps Nov. 10, but he called that possibility "still a big if." More valley news is available in our community coverage.
