What happened

John Huck, a longtime Las Vegas anchor who spent 12 years at Fox 5, is returning to local broadcast television on a different station, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. He is joining KSNV News 3 and its sister station, The CW.

KSNV General Manager Larry Strumwasser confirmed the hire on Sunday, according to the Review-Journal. In a text message, Strumwasser said, "Looking forward to John joining the News 3 family."

When viewers may see him

A likely Tuesday start

Strumwasser said Huck's first day on the air would likely be Tuesday, but he did not offer other specifics, the Review-Journal reported. Columnist John Katsilometes wrote that viewers should look for Huck on the 6 a.m. newscast.

A quiet arrival

The move has been low-key so far. When the column was written, Huck's bio was not listed on the station's official website, and there had been no formal announcement, according to the Review-Journal. Huck had not responded to the newspaper's requests for comment.

How he left Fox 5

Huck was a well-known personality at Fox 5, where he led "The Rant," a segment in which viewers leave anonymous voicemails venting about the issues of the day. He left the station abruptly in February 2025, the Review-Journal reported.

At the time, Huck posted on his LinkedIn page that he was leaving TV news after 37 years and was "excited to launch my own company serving markets I know well." According to the Review-Journal, that post was quickly taken down, and station officials gave no explanation for his departure.

Time away from the anchor desk

Huck's social media profiles list him as a business consultant and the founder of Huck Communications, the Review-Journal reported. The newspaper's headline described his time off the air as a 19-month break.

A long broadcast career

Huck is originally from Chicago and anchored CNN Headline News in the '90s, according to the Review-Journal. Before joining Fox 5 in 2002, he spent two years at KCBS in Los Angeles and three at WPGH in Pittsburgh.

Local recognition and community work

Huck was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2010, the Review-Journal reported. His philanthropic work has included co-hosting The Animal Foundation's annual Best in Show dog-adoption event at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The column did not say whether Huck's return would change anything else about KSNV's lineup. For more stories about local people and organizations, see our community coverage.

What to watch next

  • Whether Huck's first day on KSNV News 3 comes on Tuesday, as the station's general manager said was likely.
  • Whether Huck appears on the 6 a.m. newscast, as the Review-Journal columnist suggested.
  • A formal announcement or station website bio, neither of which existed when the Review-Journal column was written.
  • Any comment from Huck, who had not responded to the Review-Journal's requests.
